About Taylor

Who am I? I am an inspired millennial that is always striving to do better. I want to be able to look back on my life one day and say to myself  “Look Tay, you made it.” I understand that in order to be able to say those words to myself someday I need to put forth all of the hard work and dedication that it will take to get there. Because of this, I am very motivated and to say the least…Inspired. 🙂

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh majoring in Political Science and minoring in English. These two categories correlate for me with the hopes of becoming something along the lines of a Political Analyst some day. Attending UWO has allowed me to try new things, therefor learning even more about myself. Recently beginning to learn the beautiful language of French at the UWO campus has allowed me to grow as well. I note this because this is something that I enjoy and is an important reflection to my self identity!

Before attending college and moving to Oshkosh, I lived in Seymour, WI. It is here that I was raised and encouraged to pursue my career goals. I say encouraged to pursue my career goals because my parents have been doing so much for me ever since I was little to help me become the person that I wanted to be. Every individual in my family shapes me to be who I am. And yes, I mean each and every one of them from my 6 nieces and nephews all the way to both of my parents.

Being a little girl growing up with dreams meant that my parents would be putting in countless hours of dedication as well. When I wanted to be in dance lessons my mom would support me by bringing me to all of my practices and recitals. This wasn’t the only running my mom did for me as a child… She brought me to endless amounts of piano and vocal lessons for several years as well (I still play piano today whenever I can in my busy schedule, even though I no longer take lessons).

Yes, I used to have the typical cliche dream growing up as a little girl…to become a famous singer/actor. Both my mom and dad were willing to do whatever it took to help me fulfill this. My dad even took guitar lessons with me. My mom drove me to Milwaukee every weekend for a few months to attend my acting classes. We even spent endless amounts of money to fly to New York and L.A. for auditions to hopefully fulfill these dreams. Some trips were successful and some were not. It was later that I realized this was just exactly what I would not want to spend my life doing….

After so much time and effort put forth into this, my parents did not get mad about it. They realized that we had to go through all of that for me to realize just what I want to do with my life. This process helped me to learn about myself as well, which I am very thankful for.

Time would go on and I would still hear the same words from my dad every morning before I walked out to the school bus…”Don’t forget to tell the teacher today!!” I kid you not, I heard these words almost every morning. You’re probably wondering just what those words mean……

I have been surrounded by politics my entire life. And yes, I was just like many of you. I thought politics were boring. I never understood just exactly why my dad would come home from work and chain watch the news for endless hours. This might have been because I was only a child with little interest in all of the professionalism of the United States Government. This means that when my dad would yell, “Don’t forget to tell the teacher today!” I would rarely show interest in responding to him.

Now finally, just what do those words mean?? My dad always wanted me to tell my teachers that I was going to be the president of the United States some day. I always found this to be humorous. Why would I, a child, want to be the president of the United States when I had little interest in anything to do with politics, let alone know nothing about it…

Today, I find those words to be very encouraging. Do I want to possibly be the first female president of the United States? Heck no! But it is definitely something that I will always hold true throughout my career because my dad is the most inspirational and hard working person I have ever known. Those words might have meant nothing to me then, but they mean a lot to me now. They foreshadowed a future for me growing up while I thought I  was going to be a famous singer/actor some day.

To be honest with you, I still don’t know a lot about politics, but I am learning. It is something that I am extremely interested and excited about. I recently received an internship through a non-partisan organization known as the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters. Being able to be an intern for such a wonderful organization is allowing me to learn more about Wisconsin’s political system. While learning more about the government through my classes and my internship, I am also learning more about writing while I work at the Writing Center on the UWO campus. Here I am able to help other students with their writing, while learning more about the process of writing for myself. Both of these experiences are shaping my career path and it is something that I am very excited about 🙂

Everything that I just told you about is only a small sliver of who I really am…Who I am as a person is something that I am learning about everyday. I hope that you will find interest in my blog posts and learn even more about me as a person. Hopefully you too will become an inspired millennial along the way!
